ACC football coaches: Whose seat is hot?

Column by Patrick Hite

Here’s a quick rundown by Patrick. Go to the article for the full scoop.

Now is as good a time as any to take a look at the conference coaches and just how hot their seats are in 2008. I should let you know that I don’t think any of the 12 are truly on the hot seat. Some are on warmer seats that others, but, short of some scandal, I don’t think we’ll see much change after this coming season. But I am predicting one coaching change after 2008.  Keep reading to see which coach I think is gone.

Atlantic Division:

Boston College– Jeff Jagodzinski will find the going a little more difficult without Matt Ryan on the field.

Clemson – Tommy Bowden’s bottom should be immune to heat by now. It will be warm again this season if his Tigers don’t deliver on some lofty expectations

Florida State– There was a time with it was assumed Bobby Bowden was at FSU as long as he wanted to be there. That may not be the case any longer.

Maryland– Ralph Friedgen’s substantial rear may be a little warm with the lack of success in the program in recent years.

North Carolina State– Tom O’Brien is safe as he enters his second season.

Wake Forest – Jim Grobe is safe.

Coastal Division:

Duke– Saying any football coach at Duke is safe is just crazy talk. But, David Cutcliffe is as safe as one can be at Duke because it’s his first season.

Georgia Tech– Paul Johnson is even safer than Cutcliffe.

Miami – Randy’s Shannon’s seat is warm.

North Carolina — Butch Davis gives me an icky feeling.

Virginia – Al Groh was getting used to the hot seat for a few years, but the results of last season, when his Cavaliers almost won the Coastal, removed him from that list.

Virginia Tech– Like Jim Grobe, Frank Beamer will be at his school as long as he wants to be at his school.
