David Cutcliffe Radio Show To Debut September 1st

August 31st, 2009 · No Comments · ACC

DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke Football Radio Show with David Cutcliffe live at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club will debut on Tuesday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Hosted by veteran broadcaster Dave Nathan, the one-hour show will originate from the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and air live on WDNC 620 AM each week throughout the season.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to share our program with alumni, fans and the local community on WDNC,” said Cutcliffe. “Our appreciation extends to the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club for hosting the broadcast and it is our hope that fans join us at the hotel as we discuss Duke football.”

Cutcliffe is in his second season at the helm of the Duke football program after being named the school’s 21st head football coach back on December 15, 2007. In 2008, he guided the Blue Devils to four victories, matching the program’s combined total over the previous four seasons. Cutcliffe spent 19 seasons (1982-98; 2006-07) as an assistant coach at Tennessee, helping the Volunteers to 173 wins, 15 bowl games, four SEC championships and the 1998 national title. The Birmingham, Ala., native also served six seasons (1998-04) as the head coach at Ole Miss where he coached in five bowl games and earned SEC Coach of the Year honors in 2003 after the Rebels went 10-3, captured the league’s Western Division crown and defeated Oklahoma State, 31-28, in the Cotton Bowl.

Nathan is a 10-year veteran in the sports broadcasting field. Before moving to the Triangle to become WCMC 99.9 FM The Fan’s ACC Insider, he covered University of Tennessee football and basketball from 2000-07. Nathan, who hosted GoDuke.com’s day-long glance at the Duke-UNC basketball rivalry this past February, currently co-hosts a variety of college football shows as well as a national college basketball show with Dave Odom for BusterSports.com in Raleigh.

The show is a production of the Blue Devils ISP Sports Network.

Located on the campus of Duke University, the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club is an Award-winning hotel like no other in the region. Built in the style of an old English country inn the hotel is nestled on a 300-acre site and situated in the heartland of North Carolina. The Inn features the Duke University Golf Course, 271 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, the award-winning Fairview Dining Room, the Bull Durham Bar and superb meeting facilities for groups from 20 to 600. For more information, visit www.washingtondukeinn.com.

Herzlich Back On Boston College Campus; Attends Sunday Practice

August 31st, 2009 · No Comments · ACC

Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has returned to campus and attended the Eagles’ practice Sunday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.

Herzlich disclosed earlier this year that he is suffering from Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancer, and has been undergoing treatment in Philadelphia. Herzlich returned to The Heights this weekend and moved back to his dorm room. He plans to return to the classroom when classes begin on September 8 and will participate in team meetings and some strength and conditioning workouts.

Herzlich, who will be sidelined for the entire 2009 season, will resume his cancer treatment at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The team began game-week preparation Sunday with a light workout at 4:30 p.m. Monday is the scheduled day off. Practice will resume Tuesday afternoon.
