Pitt, Syracuse take places at ACC meetings

May 15th, 2012 · No Comments · ACC Football News

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Pitt and Syracuse are caught in a bit of no man's land right now. With one foot out of the Big East door and one foot in the ACC door, the two schools had their representatives at the ACC spring meetings this week. It may seem strange or awkward, but the programs are persona non grata at the Big East, after announcing their defections last September. They will not be at the Big East spring meetings next week, and are trying to move forward with their eyes to the ACC future.идея за подарък

Proving ground: Coastal Division

May 15th, 2012 · No Comments · ACC Football News

Earlier this morning we looked at who in the Atlantic Division has the most to prove. The Coastal Division is up next: 1. Duke coach David Cutcliffe. It’s time for Cutcliffe to prove his program is still heading in the right direction, and the most obvious way for him to do that is to lead the Blue Devils to a bowl game. Cutcliffe will be entering his fifth season in Durham, and while he’s been painfully close to a breakthrough winning season -- losing eight games over the past two years by seven or fewer points -- he will ultimately be judged by the win column.

Proving ground: Atlantic Division

May 15th, 2012 · No Comments · ACC Football News

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has played in the ACC title game twice as the Tigers’ head coach and won it once, yet if you ask Clemson fans, most would probably tell you he still needs to prove he can beat South Carolina. Swinney is hardly the only one in the ACC, though, with something to prove this fall. There are plenty of players, coaches and position groups who need to make a statement this season. We’ll start with the Atlantic Division, where the development of a few offensive lines could be a huge factor in the division race.

Don't forget the chat today! Feeling lucky? Might want to bet on a few ACC quarterbacks this fall. The league is loaded. Here's a look at what the new ACC/ESPN deal could mean for Georgia Tech. FSU and the Big 12 haven't talked, but everyone is still talking. FSU is the ACC's top money maker, but it still trails nine SEC schools. There are plenty of mixed messages coming out of Tally. Syracuse has no immediate plans to join Pitt's fight against the Big East.

Entering the Hall: Jimmy Johnson

May 15th, 2012 · No Comments · ACC Football News

Over a span of five seasons, former Miami coach Jimmy Johnson helped set the elite standard that so many Hurricanes fans are still desperately clamoring for today. In May of 1984, Johnson came to Coral Gables from Oklahoma State and took what Howard Schnellenberger built and topped it with what many consider to be one of the best college football teams in the sport’s history. Led by Vinny Testaverde, Miami’s first Heisman Trophy winner, the Canes finished the 1986 regular season 11-0 and were ranked No.

Virginia waiting to hear on Sims’ case

May 15th, 2012 · No Comments · ACC Football News

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Virginia has filed all the necessary paperwork to get Alabama transfer quarterback Phillip Sims eligible for the 2012 season. Whether he gets his hardship waiver approved by the NCAA or not, coach Mike London reiterated Tuesday at the ACC spring meetings that Michael Rocco is his team's starting quarterback. "Mike is our starting quarterback, and I’ve said that time and time again and I think hopefully we’re at a point in the program where players who come in, not only Phillip Sims, but the incoming freshmen class want to compete for opportunities," London said.

Miami QB Stephen Morris gets green light

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Miami coach Al Golden said Tuesday that quarterback Stephen Morris has been medically cleared and is ready to participate in the Hurricanes' offseason program. Players report back to campus Tuesday, and Golden said Morris will get right to passing drills and working with receivers on individual routes. Golden has previously said that Morris was ahead of schedule in his return from back surgery. Morris did return for the final week of spring practice, but he was limited and didn't participate in the spring game.
